Manchester United smash AC Milan
Thursday 11 March 2010
David Beckham return to Old Trafford was brief and disappointing as his team failed to defeat Manchester United. Beckham only made a 27-minute appearance as a substitute and was overshadowed by Wayne Rooney's latest masterclass.

Rooney was in a very good shape and he brought Manchester an extended advantage after scoring two goals before the half-time. Milan had opportunities of their own with Ronaldinho's header. But Neville delivered a cross and Rooney maintained his lethal form in the air by flashing a header past Christian Abbiati.
Fletcher’s goal completed the match with his last successful move (4-0) and United left the stadium with confidence growing that they are on course to reach the final in Madrid in May.

Fiorentina 3-2 Bayern Munich (4-4)
Wednesday 10 March 2010
Bayern Munich reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League on away goals despite losing 3-2 at Fiorentina.

Bayern's two goals maintained their impressive Champions League record of scoring in away ties - they have now notched in 18 of their last 19. Bayern struggled to clear their lines in the first half as Fiorentina, playing with a strong determination. The first goal came from Marco Marchionni's 40-yard shot which last went to Vargas.
Fiorentina were controlling the game with two other goals from Jovetic but Van Bommel managed to slip and score. Extra-time was not in questions when Robben brought the last goal. “It wasn't an easy game, but in the second half we kept the ball on the ground more and we scored two beautiful goals,” said Bayer Munich coach.

Rooney trains before the clash with AC Milan
Tuesday 9 March 2010
Wayne Rooney has trained with his Manchester United team-mates this morning raising assumptions that he will be fit to play against AC Milan in the Champions League tomorrow night.

The striker missed last Saturday's 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers after returning from international duty with a knee injury. Sir Alex Ferguson is upset with Wembley for "draining" his player but now Rooney seems to gain power. Michael Carrick is suspended after being sent off in stoppage time at San Siro, so Darren Fletcher is expected to return.
Ryan Giggs also returned to training this morning, less than a month after fracturing his right arm against Aston Villa but Ferguson decided he won’t be fit to meet Milan. United have never been knocked out of a two-legged European tie after winning the away leg first.
