Murray moves on in US Open defeating Lacko
Thursday 2 September 2010
Britain's Andy Murray got his US Open campaign off to a seamless start with victory over Lukas Lacko in the first round. Murray eased past the Slovakian world number 71, 6-3 6-2 6-2.

The British number one produced his full repertoire of shots as he wrapped things up in under two hours. “I managed to get through in straight sets so I'm pleased, but it was a lot tougher than the score suggests. Everyone in my box always tells me it's a lot tougher watching in the heat than playing but I'm not so sure. They were brutal conditions,” said Murray. Seventh seed and potential quarter-final opponent Tomas Berdych had suffered a shock defeat by Michael Llodra.
Murray, 23, will face Dustin Brown in round two after the Jamaican beat Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo 6-4 7-6 (8-6) 7-5.

West Ham agree for Lars Jacobsen
Wednesday 1 September 2010
West Ham have agreed a deal to sign Danish right-back Lars Jacobsen from Blackburn Rovers. The move was sealed late on transfer deadline day and is awaiting approval from the Premier League.

Sam Allardyce signed Jacobsen for Blackburn on a free transfer from Everton, where his appearances were limited by a shoulder injury. The defender started his career at Danish side Odense and has also played for Hamburg, FC Copenhagen and Nuremberg. Jacobsen played in all three of Denmark's matches at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Jacobsen, 30, has earned 35 caps for Denmark and played 16 times for Blackburn since arriving in June 2009.

Roger Federer has easy start at US Open
Tuesday 31 August 2010
Five-time champion Roger Federer had an easy start for his US Open campaign. He defeated Argentina's Brian Dabul in the first round. The Swiss eased through 6-1 6-4 6-2 in the night session.

Federer will next have to face Germany's Andreas Beck in the second round. The highlight was a through-the-legs winner. He said after the match: "I thought I was a bit late. I had to give it one last push to get there and then I thought 'I think I can do this one again'. Thanks for the ovation. I love it."
Fifth seed Robin Soderling earlier survived and managed to beat Austrian qualifier Andreas Haider-Maurer. Sixth seed Nikolay Davydenko saw off Michael Russell and 2003 champion Andy Roddick was also a comfortable winner.
